Zhang Chi

Artist Chi ZHANG, was born in 1981 in Yingkou City, Liaoning province, China. He has been teaching in the Arts Department, Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering since he graduated from Academy of Fine Arts, South China Normal University with a Master degree in 2006.

作者自述

我们生活在这样一个喧嚣、浮躁、急功近利的社会中，我们身边也从不缺少工业化、现代化、消费主义、物质主义等词汇。然而我们却似乎忘记了什么，忘记了自然、也忘记了本源、忘记了人性。我的作品正是立足于此，关注被我们忽视的昆虫的微观世界，甚至是一些私密的草丛。把昆虫和人类肢体进行嫁接与异化，也似乎是一种预言。在这个次生的昆虫人的世界中，追问人性和生命的本源，反思人性的善与恶，社会秩序的对与错。它的荒诞与艳靡却离我们如此之近，如此活生生的存在。

Artist’s Statement

The world we are living in right now is fraught with clamor and impetuosity and everyone in the society is anxious to achieve quick success and instant benefits.

 At the same time, our life is never devoid of industrialization, modernization, consumerism, and materialism, but it seems that we have already forgotten how to think deeply about something like the nature, the origin of life and humanity.

So my oil paintings are just focused on the micro-world of insects or even private bushes which are always neglected by people. It may be a prophecy that insect man is created by the way of grafting and dissimilation of insects and human bodies.

 In the heterogenic world of insect man which is absurd and gorgeous and existed around us closely and animatedly, humanity and origin of life can be traced, and virtues and vices of humanity, and right and wrong of social orders can be reflected upon.
