Bjorn Holmsen, born in Sweden in 1965, borrowed his first camera at the age of four from grandpa, and even made his own word for “picturing”. When turning 14 he started working in a camera shop in downtime Stockholm, saving up money for his first own real camera, a Canon F-1 New, which he bought a year later. But it was so expensive he could only afford the body and had to save another year before buying his first lens.
At Stockholm University he majored in Japanese and Chinese, later only to move to China, where he has lived more than 15 years.
Combining his interests in foreign languages and cultures, travelling, outdoors, and photography, his most representative pictures are from remote places, the majority of which not surprisingly from China. He specializes in dramatic landscapes, sometimes urban, or snapshots of people in their daily life, often bringing out some interesting detail or peculiarity.
Most of the pictures at the exhibition are shot in 35 mm slide film scanned to digital format.
