罗中立是大家所熟知的艺术家，他在中国的大地上成长，经历时代浪潮吸收了本土养分，成为一位对中国油画艺术影响深远的艺术家。他对光的应用，极具特色的构图，对人物的观察与表现方式都具有鲜明的个性并为大家所熟知。
本次展览的作品是罗中立在旅途中的即兴之作，他行走于他方，用画笔记录旅途中看到的点点滴滴。风格上看上去更加自由随性，与惯常的作品比起来，让观者耳目一新；而作品中对“他方”的勾勒比起惯常对“此方”的描绘也更增加了这种新奇之感。
虽然这些来自于“他方”的作品展露出罗中立的另一种面貌，但其根源却仍在“此方”。艺术家手上的表现力，深深根植于他成长的土地与经历。细究起来，那些异国图景依靠光线所散发出的强大感染力，异地人民在随性的构图中所透露出的倔强，这些仍然是大家所熟知的罗中立。他带着来自于此方的目光，行走在他方；使用来自于此方的独特表达，描绘着明于眼成于心的他方。
Here and Beyond: Arts of Zhongli Luo
Zhongli Luo is a well known artist in China. He lives and grew up in China. He has been through the tides of time and draws the experience from it which makes him one of the most renowned artists in Chinese contemporary art history. His understanding and usage of light, his unique composition, and his special perspective when dealing with figures are vivid and well known to the Chinese people.
The works in this exhibition are quite spontaneous. He traveled afar and recorded every little detail. The brushstrokes were applied with more freedom. In comparison to his usual pieces, these works are refreshing and which makes these spontaneous works more unique.
Although these works, which were painted in other locale or at foreign places, shows other sides of Zhongli Luo, deep down these works still reflected his background and experiences. The expressive strokes in these works are rooted in his hometown and soil. Upon closer observation, the use of light and shadow which emits tremendous energy and the use of simple stroke to illustrate the hardship of people are still the elements Zhongli Luo use in most of his works. So no matter how far away he goes, he always connects them to his hometown and soil.
