《城市层状》展览时城市，其词典意思指的是具有都邑和市场的物理空间，然而在现代社会里城市的定义具有复合性的意思，即所谓的城市在政治学、经济学、社会学和行政学上形成错综复杂、五花八门的关系。因为城市不是从一开始就形成完整的形态，所以要讲解城市，首先要观察因‘城市化’而引起的变化为极其重要。如此经历着演变过程的城市，不是在一朝一夕以新换旧而是新与旧共存， 其上面又不断地出现新的东西在变化成长。经过时间和反复重复的过程，城市造就巨大的现象之层。也就是说，随着时间的流逝，构成城市的新层现象共存并形成五花八门的城市景象。过去的城市不是被消灭了，而是依稀存在并形成新的层次。

　　如此，城市是过去、现在和未来共存的空间，是自己和他人进行交流的空间，是传统和现代混淆在一起的空间。通过观察构成城市的无限层断面，为了解如今城市具有的希望与挫折、发展与疏离、变化与丧失、聚合与解体等两面化提供良机，并且要通过城市里发生的点点滴滴和个人经验，去接近如今后期资本主义所强调的日常和环境问题

　　这次《城市层状》展是由曾参加过中国PSB(Project Space in Beijing)居住工程项目的14位作家前来参加。从作家们的视觉解释的城市层状问题不仅是关于人类存在的根本问题而且也可能是处于正经历过度开发过程的韩国和中国所直面的问题。以这种主题组织的《城市层状》展是把如今我们所经历的社会性或个人性问题通过艺术媒体互相分享并进行沟通，认为在这一点上本次《城市层状》展做了一次重要的试图，而且在通过文化媒体与他人进行交流的方面上具有很大的意义。向组织并参加本次展会的各位作家表示衷心的感谢，特向为展会的圆满成功伸出帮助之手的北京阿特塞帝(ARTSIDE)画廊以及相关人员，还有PARADISE文化财团表示由衷的感谢。
