政府以低廉月租把位於油街的政府物業租予藝術家，「油街藝術村」無意中形成，駐場藝術家包括VAS會員郭孟浩、趙顯才、甘志強、李國泉、林玉蓮等。藝術村因租約問題，僅維持一年多。藝術家後遷到牛棚，藝術村於2001年11月3日開幕。

The “Oil Street Artist Village” was formed as the government rented the property to artists at prefereutial rent. VAS members Kwok Mang-ho, Cho Hyun-jae, Kum Chi-keung, Wood Lee, Pauline Lam were accommodated “village” for about a year. Artists then moved to the Cattle Depot Artist Village which opened on 3 November 2001.

香港藝術發展局以一元象徵式租金將上海街及砵蘭街共六個單位租予六個藝術團體／藝術家，名為「上海街視藝空間」計劃。當中以上海街404號的展覽空間最為著名。

Hong Kong Arts Development Council rented 6 units in Shanghai Street and Portland Street for HK$1 to 6 art organizations/artists. 404 Shanghai Street was converted to exhibition space “Shanghai Street Artspace”.

香港首次參與第49屆威尼斯雙年展，主題為「臨街的映照」，代表為梁志和、何兆基、鮑藹倫，張頌仁策展，香港藝術發展局三年計劃重點之一。郭孟浩等八位視覺藝術工作者組成學習小組，6月1日至10日協助展覽。

For the first time, Hong Kong took place in the 49th Venice Biennale at the initiation of HKADC as its key project in the three-yeas plan. With the theme of “Magic at Street Level”, the show was curated by Chang Tsong-zung and the participating artists were Leung Chi-wo, Ho Siu-kee and Ellen Pau. A eight-member study group formed by visual arts practitioners including Kwok Mang-ho spend ten days from 1 June to 10 June to assist in on-site work.

終審法院判決莊豐源一案政府敗訴。該案被指造成日後大量雙非孕婦來港分娩。

The case of Director of Immigration v. Chong Fung Yuen marked that that Chinese citizens born in Hong Kong enjoyed the right of abode regardless of the Hong Kong immigration status of their parents.

The Right Honourable Tung Chee-hwa was uncontested in the election for a second term as Chief Executive of HKSAR.

A massive SARS outbreak occurred in the Amoy Gardens.

香港第二次參與第50屆威尼斯雙年展，主題為「寄穴」，代表為Para/Site藝術空間共11位藝術家。

For the second time, Hong Kong took part in the 50th Venice Biennale. With the theme of “Navigating the Dot”, 11 artists from Para/Site Art Space were selected.

Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) was signed.

五十萬人上街遊行，抗議基本法第二十三條立法。

A massive demonstration of half a million people protested after the the government released its proposals for the Hong Kong Basic Law Article 23.

中國內地發現疑似H5N1禽流感個案，政府宣布暫停輸入大陸活禽鳥及禽肉進口。

香港星光大道開幕。

Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong was opened.

香港浸會大學宣布成立視覺藝術院，統籌翌年9月開辦的視覺藝術文學士課程，提供40個學額。

The Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University was formally established to coordinate the proposed Visual Arts B.A. (Hons) Programme scheduled for launching in September 2005, offering 40 places.

政府公布西九龍文娛藝術區將以單一招標形式競投，三間合資格發展商入圍。

The government announced that the West Kowloon Cultural District be a single-tender approach. 3 developers were shortlisted.

香港參與第51屆威尼斯雙年展，馮美瑩策展，代表為又一山人及陳育強，主題為「紅白藍西遊記」。

Curated by Sabrina Fung, Hong Kong artists Anothermountainman and Kurt Chan participated in the 51st Venice Biennale, titled “Investigation of a journey to the West By Micro+Polo”.

徐步高事件，警員一死一傷，徐氏期間被合法擊斃。後揭發徐氏與2001年另一宗警員被殺案及銀行劫殺案有關。

1 police officer was killed and 1 injured by police officer Tsui Po-ko, Tsui then “lawfully killed” in a shootout. The investigation show he was implicated in a number of crimes included bank robbery and murder in 2001.

西九文化區M+建議方案出爐。

The Museums Advisory Group recommended the “M+” concept for the WKCD.

The “privatization” of public space in Times Square and Sai Yeung Choi Street pedestrian zone gave rise to keen discussions within the society and art scene.

2008年香港流行性感冒疫潮事件爆發，小學及幼稚園停課至24日。3名小童死亡，幾百人入院。

The broke out of H3N2 flu caused 3 death of children and hundreds were admitted to hospital. Primary schools and kindergarten classes was suspended until 24 March.

香港藝術館舉行「向唐景森致敬」回顧展。

The Hong Kong Museum of Art organized a special exhibition, titled: “Salute To Tong King Sum”.

「懷念關晃」展覽於香港藝術中心包氏畫廊舉行，由藝圈好友及學生合辦，得到不少畫廊及朋友借出作品。

In memory of Jerry Kwan at the Pao Galleries, 4/F, Hong Kong Arts Centre was organized by his friends and students, the art works were borrowed from galleries and friends.

呂豐雅出任水墨會策劃總監向香港政府提交「活化法定古蹟景賢里為水墨館」方案。

Eddie Lui was appointed by The Ink Society to prepare a design and technical submission to the Hong Kong Government proposing to convert and revitalise the garden compound monument into THE INK ART CENTRE at King Yin Lei.
