When we went to visit Shen recently, he had just finished this painting. We asked him if he would make any others, like Tranquility, which has a calmer surface and plays with reflection and larger swells in the water, and he said no, he did that before. But we are happy that he still likes the more complicated situations presented by smaller ripples, reflection, diffraction, bubbles and distortions, like this one, which is more like one he did with this complex situation, in water, back in 2008.
Shen's amazing attention to detail always renders good paintings, and the more complex the situation, the more interesting are his works. This one is quite special.
