Dr. Rachel Shi:

As a poet, writer, painter and scholar, Ms. Shi grew up in the beautiful city of Suzhou in Jiangsu Province.  Early on, she studied in the Lu Xun Liberal Art College, and in the Department of Chinese Literature in Fudan University.  She came to the US in 1966 to study, and has since obtained both master’s and doctor’s degrees.  Her thesis work was in the area of comparative study of literatures between the Old Testament and Chinese Classics.  She lives in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.  Besides being the Chairperson of The Association of Chinese Christian Literature and Art, she is also in charge of the Art & Literature column of the International Daily, a Chinese newspaper.  In between, she has also served as a guest talk show host and as producer of television shows.

Since the 1980’s, her total publications in poems, novels, essays and commentaries have exceeded four million words, along with more than fifty paintings.  She was the chief editor of “Collected Work of Hu Shi,” and “Series of Spiritual Literature,” etc.  She has received multiple honors for her poems and novels.  She has published fourteen novels, including “The Song of Songs.”  Her novel, “Red Wall & Magnolia,” was awarded the first prize in a worldwide Chinese literature competition. She has collaborated with musicians to create large scale symphonic poems, “Ode to Christ,” and “The Lord Loves China” suite.

Ms. Shi’s love of color started when she was very young.  In 1997, she began to study oil painting in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  In the past years, she has held many personal exhibitions of her works in literature and in art, in Los Angeles, San Diego and East Valley.  Her art works have been collected by individuals and art galleries across the US, Taiwan and China.  Her works have been cited and covered in newspapers and periodicals both in America and in China.  Some of her art works were included in art albums.  “World Daily News,” “DW News,” “China Daily News,” in the US, ETTV in Taiwan, and Zhejiang Satellite TV have all reported her works and her exhibitions.  "Los Angeles daily," "International Daily," China News Net, China "Upper Class," "Selected Poems," etc., all have published poems and paintings by Ms. Shi, as well as news reports and commentaries.
