作品看似静态场景的照片，在一座大型工作室中摆布出来，灵感来自于顾
闳中十世纪的名作《韩熙载夜宴图》，描绘了官宦之家生活的腐化糜烂。
主人公、他的庭院、身着礼服的女子以及琵琶都被中国当代艺术界的人物
所替代，包括艺术家本人、染发的女子以及塑料吉他。整个场景几乎是按
真实比例复制出来，尊重原画卷的各式与构图。
将唐代官宦表现成当今艺术理论精英的成员，艺术家审视了历史与当代阶
级和权利结构之间的相似性。

“The Night Revels of Lao Li” (2000) is one of Wang Qingsong’s
most ambitious works. Staged in a huge studio, this piece,
resembling a photographic tableaux, was inspired by Gu
Hongzheng’s tenth-century masterpiece“ Night Entertainment
of Han Xizai”, which tells the story of corruption inside the
imperial court. The emperor, his court, the robed girls and the
lutes are replaced by contemporary Chinese art personalities,
including the artist himself, girls with technicolor hair and plastic
guitars. The whole scene is almost life size and retains the
original format and composition of the hand scroll.
By representing Tang Dynasty court officials as members
of today’s academic art elite, the artist deliberates on the
analogies between historic and contemporary hierarchies and
power structures.
